Become a Driver Education Instructor

Please note: You must be a NYS Certified K-12 Teacher
with a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Education.

Classes taught at the GST BOCES Coopers Campus in Painted Post by Adaptive Driving Services of Binghamton.

Course will be held one weekend a month in October, November and December 2014 and January 2015.

 

GST Traffic Safety Part 1 – Improving Classroom Instruction

TSE 550 (aka DE003) – (3 Graduate Credits )

This is part one of a two-part class. Lecture will be offered at GST BOCES, the host site, on Saturdays and Sundays beginning in the Fall 2014. This course will prepare teachers for classroom instruction, covering all topics relevant to the NYS Driver Education curriculum. It also will prepare teachers for the administration procedures required when offering the program in the high school setting.

Prerequisites: Secondary school teaching certificate, clean driving record (absent of serious violations) and high school administration approval. (This will be needed to comply with State Education approval.)

GST Traffic Safety Part 2 – Improving Laboratory Instruction

TSE 570 (aka DE004) – (3 Graduate Credits )

Part 2/Traffic Safety 2 – Improving Lab will be offered in the Spring. Schedule to be decided by class participants. This course covers the information and hands-on experience necessary to teach the laboratory phase of the driver education program. Both Traffic Safety 1 and Traffic Safety 2 are required to qualify for provisional teaching approval.

November 8-9

December 6-7

January 10-11
Time: Saturdays 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Sundays 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Location:   GST BOCES Coopers Campus, Painted Post
Cost: $1,350 per course

Programmable Logic Controller

BSH-9604 - Prerequisite: Successful completion of the Electricity Program, Industrial Maintenance program or understanding of basic electricity, AC and DC theory with instructor’s approval. Also basic understanding and experience with the Windows PC environment This training program is intended to provide a fundamental understanding of the Programmable Logic Controller. This includes the hardware components included in a Programmable Logic Controller system and the software used to create, debug and monitor the system. The program consists of both class lectures and hands on labs with PLC hardware, industrial sensors and a variety of devices typically controlled and monitored by PLCs. By definition, this training course is not a “programming” class, however significant time is spent within the programming environment in an effort to enable the student to fully grasp the programming concepts, use the development environment in troubleshooting, process monitoring, and data collection
